Franko Discussion / Panthers safety Eric Reid and Eagles counterpart
« on: December 09, 2018, 09:14:31 pm »
Malcolm Jenkins care about many of the same causes. But they clearly have differences of opinion about how to go about addressing them. The two exchanged words prior to Sunday’s game https://www.carolinapanthersfanshop.com/Donte-Jackson-Jersey , and after the Panthers comeback win, Reid was terse in his description. When asked if he wanted to describe the altercation, he initially said no, before throwing the haymaker.“He’s a sellout,” Reid said, via David Newton of ESPN.com.He repeated the charge, and then replied in the affirmative if that was the cause of the dust-up. Asked if Jenkins said anything specifically to him, Reid replied: “His actions speak louder than his words.”Reid has had a problem with the league and Jenkins, since the Eagles safety took a lead role in the Players Coalition deal with owners, which Reid has referred to as an “NFL-funded subversion group.”Those disagreements boiled over Sunday.UPDATE 5:03 p.m. ET: Jenkins took the high road. Via Elliott Shorr-Parks of WIP, Jenkins said he wasn’t going to make any negative comments about Reid, and wanted to keep the focus on the issues. Sunday’s visit from the New York Giants marked a reunion of sorts. Former Carolina Panthers general manager Dave Gettlman was in the building, as was former offensive coordinator Mike Shula. The latter was routinely the brunt of near universal criticism during his final years in charge of the Panthers offense Greg Olsen Jersey , largely thanks to the ultra conservative play calling Panthers fans have come to know and hate. It seemed his mere presence in the stadium was enough to put the Panthers offense in a state of complete disorder. The delay of game penalties and wasted timeouts that seemed to be a thing of the past once again reared their heads, and the infamous “grind it out” approach to offense once again manifested itself. Norv Turner called a good first quarter. On six first quarter first downs, the Panthers passed the ball three times, completing all of them for 44 yards and a touchdown. The other three plays were runs, but one of them was a piece of gadgetry that resulted in an 18 yard carry for wide receiver D.J. Moore. That’s the type of balance you like to see. Then things went south. Odell Beckham Jr. botched a punt that was recovered in the end zone for a touchdown to put the Panthers up 14-3 less than one minute into the second quarter. The Panthersseemingly deemed that 11 point lead with 44 minutes to go insurmountable. The ensuing first down play calls to close out the first half were run, pass, run, run, run, run. Just grind the clock, baby. The Panthers seemed to break themselves of that play calling curse in the locker room during the halftime intermission. They split their six third quarter play calls 50/50, calling three runs and three passes, but that increased aggression vanished in crunch time. The Panthers entered the fourth quarter with a 20-16 lead and the ball just short of midfield.Starting with that precarious lead in the final frame Fozzy Whittaker Color Rush Jersey , the Panthers went on to call this sequence of first down plays while leading: screen pass, run, run, run, screen pass, run, run, run. The two Cam Newton runs in that sequence generated 16 yards. The other six plays combined to gain five yards. The Panthers also lost their lead. With the Giants desperately hunting a comeback and the Panthers in need of offense, the coaching staff frequently elected to take the ball out of their most dynamic playmaker’s hands on first downs. It resulted in an offense constantly fighting an uphill battle to sustain drives and put the game out of reach. A historic Graham Gano field goal as time expired gave the coaching staff the result they sought despite a horribly flawed process that could have, and perhaps should have lost them the game. The Panthers overcame their own flawed game management once again to pull out a victory, but it’s fair to wonder how long this can be sustained.

Franko Discussion / Chicago Bears vs New England Patriots Preview
« on: December 09, 2018, 09:06:20 pm »
Which Players to Watch For The Chicago Bears are coming off of an incredibly difficult loss to the Dolphins. We can make all the excuses we want Tarik Cohen Color Rush Jersey , but the fact remains that the Bears did not play well enough to come home victorious. The good news about that is that the Bears, especially on defense, should be embarrassed and hopefully play that way. Against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, they will need every ounce of the anger that they are assuredly feeling after watching that film. In a surprise (to some), Mitch Trubisky has stacked together 2 good games. Bill Belichick has a way of ruining young quarterbacks, so this will be a huge test for Trubisky. The key will be for Matt Nagy to understand how Andy Reid’s system has been able to beat the Patriots defense over the years and exploit it. If Nagy can call the right game, and Trubisky can execute, this game is certainly not the unwinnable game it appeared when the schedule came out. Here is my list of players to keep an eye on Sunday afternoon.Who to WatchTarik Cohen: My guess is that the Patriots will try and take away someone and I think the easiest players for them to target are Allen Robinson II and Trey Burton. The Patriots lack speed and athleticism on defense, that should lend itself to the Bears speedsters getting some favorable match-ups. Look for Tarik Cohen to be used a bit more in the running game this week and to get a few chunk plays in doing so. Taylor Gabriel: The other speedster on the Bears offense is Taylor Gabriel, who is having a very nice season to date. The Patriots are susceptible to pure speed and Gabriel has plenty of that. So far, Gabriel has done most of his damage deep. This could be a situation where we see Gabriel do a little more on crossing routes or other shorter routes that typically lead to a lot of yards after the catch. But don’t sleep on the deep ball either...Akiem Hicks: The key to attacking Brady and the Patriots offense is pushing the interior of the pocket and getting in his face. If Brady has a pocket to step up into, you might as well pack it in, he will pick you apart. Akiem Hicks is going to have to do 2 things well. First, he needs to collapse the pocket as much as possible. Second https://www.thebearsfanshop.com/James-Daniels-Jersey , he has to force the blocking scheme to him to allow his teammates to also get push inside. The Patriots lament the loss of Hicks, let’s make this one really hurt. Roquan Smith: Roquan Smith is pulling a very difficult assignment in this game. He will be tasked with stopping Sony Michel and James White in the running game, then turning around and covering White and Rob Gronkowski in the passing game. I feel for Smith, this is as tall an order as you will find against an NFL team, but he certainly has the talent to do so. Smith played really well last week, he is going to need to be at least that good again on Sunday. What are your thoughts? Which Bears players are you keeping an eye on this Sunday afternoon against the Patriots?Stay tuned for my Three Keys to the Game tomorrow morning and in case you missed it, here is my What to Watch For from earlier today.Week 7 DVOA notes: The Bears miss a healthy Khalil Mack, while their offense continues to rise Have as sparkling a first four games defensively as the 2018 Bears did, and it’s going to be difficult to sink their rankings in advanced metrics entirely. Numbers can indeed be propped up by prior performance. The Bears have been gashed in two straight weeks by the Dolphins and Patriots, yet somehow still possess the No. 1 overall defense in Football Outsiders’ DVOA. Part of them maintaining that stranglehold is the fact that they’ve been able to create six turnovers even as their defense has taken steps back in recent weeks. The other part of it, is that no one in the NFL really plays great defense anymore. Chicago has the worst defense to ever rank at No. 1 overall seven weeks into an NFL season. This is a passing league with an abundance of bend-but-don’t-break defenses. Chances are that isn’t the case if Khalil Mack doesn’t roll his ankle in Miami 10 days ago, as the Bears would’ve continued to run roughshod on the league. But, it’s a fact nonetheless, and a question they must answer for as Mack certainly won’t be 100 percent again any time soon. Offensive performance is a different story for these Bears Aaron Lynch Jersey , as they continue to ascend according to the numbers. They haven’t yet put together a 60-minute performance against a quality defense, but continue to show explosive bursts in intermittent periods most NFL offensive coordinators would be envious of. In their last three games, the Bears have averaged over 470 yards of offense a game and 36 points. That kind of production led by Matt Nagy and Mitchell Trubisky has translated into pro football’s No. 13 overall offense in DVOA. This comes after consistently ranking in the bottom over the first three games.Say what you justifiably will about Trubisky’s errant ways as a developing passer, but this Bears offense is on the right track provided they can continue to progress. Where the Bears experienced the most precipitous drop after their 38-31 defeat to the Patriots on Sunday is in special teams play. Going in, Chris Tabor’s crew had the No. 9 overall third phase. After allowing two special teams scores in one game, they have dropped all the way down to No. 25 overall and have a lot of ground to make up. Given that there are often only a max of 15 to 16 special teams plays a game, it’ll be awhile before Tabor and company can improve their standing. Fortunately, a reeling Jets team visits Chicago this week, so the Bears can pump up all of their relevant numbers against a team they should beat. The key there: should. Franko Discussion / Cowboys Poll: Which linebacker should see
« on: December 09, 2018, 08:57:41 pm »
more time Jay Novacek Color Rush Jersey , Sean Lee or Leighton Vander Esch? It seems incredibly likely that Sean Lee will return to the field this Sunday when the Cowboys take on the Washington Redskins. For the first time ever, the Cowboys defense isn’t aching for his return, as rookie Leighton Vander Esch has been spectacular filling in. In fact https://www.dallascowboysfanshop.com/Bill-Bates-Jersey , he’s been the best rookie linebacker so far. Dallas is certainly eager to get a veteran as talented as Lee back on the field. When they line up in their base 4-3 formations, they could possibly get Lee on the field at the same time as Vander Esch. They would need to move LVE to the strong side in that situation assuming Jaylon Smith stays in the middle, relegating Damien Wilson to the bench. When they switch to a nickel package Charles Haley Jersey , they’ll have to choose between linebackers if we assume that Jaylon Smith will stay on the field for most of the snaps. The Cowboys will have to do some swapping of positions, but in the end who should get the majority of the snaps next to Smith, Lee or Vander Esch? Cowboys wide receiver Cole Beasley may have been down short of the sticks on a catch late in the fourth quarter of Thursday night’s win over the Saints L. P. Ladouceur Color Rush Jersey , but the officials marked it as a first down and the Saints were out of timeouts so they couldn’t challenge the spot of the ball. The first down still came at a cost for Beasley and the Cowboys. Beasley injured his foot and had to hobble to the sideline after the play.On Friday, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said that the team is “hopeful” that Beasley will not be out for an extended period of time. Beasley had two catches for nine yards on Thursday and has 48 catches for 468 yards and two touchdowns on the year.Garrett said he is also hopeful that left tackle Tyron Smith can return to practice once the Cowboys get back on the field next week. Smith has missed the last two games due to a stinger and an elbow issue.

Franko Discussion / The only thing missing from the Chiefs‘ rout
« on: December 09, 2018, 08:51:29 pm »
KANSAS CITY Ronnie Harrison Jersey , Mo. of the Jaguars on Sunday was discipline. The Chiefs forced five turnovers on defense, returning one of Blake Bortles‘ four interceptions for a touchdown. Their high-scoring offense gained more than 400 yards behind Patrick Mahomes‘ efficient air assault and Kareem Hunt‘s hard running. And their special teams were simply steady. But a little of that shine was dulled by the ejections of defensive tackle Chris Jones and pass rusher Dee Ford, both in聽the second half of the Chiefs’ 30-14 victory.Jones, whose pick-six electrified Arrowhead Stadium earlier in the game, was crushed to the ground as Jacksonville attempted an extra point. For no apparent reason, Jones drove his right elbow into the thigh of the聽Jacksonville player beneath him, right in front of an official a few yards away.Ford’s ejection was a bit less egregious. He was flagged twice for unsportsmanlike conduct, the second of which came for standing over Bortles after chasing him into the Kansas City bench area.“We have to keep ourselves under control emotionally. When two good football teams play each other, there’s going to be emotion,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “This is a team that’s going to try to be physical and push you around at your place, and you can’t let that happen, either, so you have to put your foot down. But you have to do it the right way.”Jones and Ford were both absent from the locker room after the game.“We have to learn from that. You surely can’t be ejected from the game. That’s not smart football,” Reid said. “Nobody is going to push us around anywhere, but be smart with it.”Especially considering the Chiefs (5-0) visit New England next weekend. The Jaguars (3-2) also were chippy throughout the game, but聽they at least had reason to unload their frustration.聽Bortles and the offense struggled with turnovers, and a defense that was ranked No. 1 in the NFL coming into the game watched Mahomes, Hunt and the rest of the Chiefs move the ball at will.“I thought that we came out and played flat, myself included. I think they had points on every possession in the first half https://www.jaguarsfanstore.com/Will-Richardson-Jersey ,” Jaguars safety Tashaun Gipson said. “You can’t call yourself the best defense in the National Football League. I don’t care who coaches or who’s the quarterback, it just shouldn’t happen. But it happened today. So, again, they’re best offense in the National Football League for a reason. They definitely came out and showed us today.”In truth, the Chiefs made a solid argument they’re also the best team.“I don’t think (Jacksonville) is physical. I think they want to pretend like they’re physical when everything’s going good,” Chiefs cornerback Orlando Scandrick said. “I think we’re a really physical team. I think we play a physical style of defense. I think we play a very simple style of defense and do what we do better than you do what you do.”If not for the ejections, they would have done it to perfection Sunday.81View Gallery Gallery:View from the sidelines: NFL cheerleaders 2018Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports | Raj Mehta STARTQB Jared Goff, RamsGoff has so many weapons at his disposal that I’m not really worried about the Vikings defense, which has only allowed one TD pass per game. The offense has scored over 30 points in each game. He may not get the 350 Plus yards like he did last two weeks, but he is a shoe in for 250. Projection: 262 yards and 2 touchdownsQB Kirk Cousins, Vikings Yes, the Rams Defense is good, but that doesn’t scare me into benching Cousins. Over the last two weeks he has averaged throwing the ball 51 times. I believe he may need that type of volume to keep up with the Rams. With Talib and Peters out, I believe his receivers will get open for him. I expect a bitof redemption for Cousins in a game that could very well be a shootout. Projection: 275 yards, with 3 touchdowns and 1 interceptionRB Todd Gurley, RamsLook, you are starting Todd Gurley no matter what. He could be facing the a herd of speed walking zombies and I’m still starting him, but it won’t be an easy matchup. The Vikings are without Griffin, but the defense hasn’t allowed a running back to go over 60 yards this season. He is the offense Logan Cooke Color Rush Jersey , so I believe he beats that but it will be a tough. He may not be RB 1 this week but should be in top 3 for sure. Projection: 22 carries 82 yards and a score, with 4 receptions for 45 yards WR Cooper Kupp, RamsKupp has been a consistent red zone threat for Goff scoring 2 touchdowns this season. He hasn’t had a game lower then 12 fantasy points PPR and I believe he will continue with that. The Vikings defense are tough but are susceptible to the slot receivers.Projection: 5 receptions for 69 yards and 1 touchdownWR Robert Woods, RamsWoods broke out last week getting a stat line of 10-104-2. He may not have that stat line this weeks as the Vikings are a bigger mountain to climb. He has been getting 9 targets in each game so far and I think that continues. He costs 5400 dollars in Draft Kings, and I believe he is the worth the price of admission. Projection: 6 receptions for 68 yards and 1 touchdownWR Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs, VikingsThe Rams defense will stop the run but I believe the passing defense will be in trouble. Their top two corners, Aquib Talib and Marcus Peters we out, so I believe both of them will have good games. Cousins is going to have to throw the ball to win this game as they may be playing catch up. Start both of them. Projection: Thielen 9 receptions for 86 yardsProjection: Diggs 6 receptions for 74 yards and 1 touchdownTE Kyle Rudolph, VikingsThe Rams have been very generous to the tight endposition allowing 260+ yards so far. I believe this is a product of having strong corners stopping the outside threat, thus forcing the quarterback to throw in the middle. However, with Peters and Talib being both out I don’t think his production will slip that much. He has been averaging around 7 targets in the last two weeks as Cousin’s looks for him.He is a red zone threat, and I believe he finds the end zone this week. Projection: 5 receptions for 52 yards and 1 touchdownRams DefenseEven with the top two corners being out, the defense is still really good. I expect them to give up some points but will make up for it with sacks and some turnovers Projection: 24 points allowed with 4 sack and 2 turnovers K Dan Bailey, VikingsI was wrong about him last week, but blame that on the game script. Vikings were down early and often thus limiting his chances to kick. I believe the Vikings will move the ball and the Rams will bend, not break, leaving him with some kicking opportunities. Projection: 2 for 2 for field goals with 3 extra pointsSIT RB Dalvin Cook and Latavius Murray, VikingsCooks status is still up in the air as his hamstring is still injured. I expect him not to play as I believe the Vikings will save him for the season, and this is a shorter week. Thus even if he does play I don’t expect a good game; same for Murray too. The RamsDefense is only allowing 96 rushing yards this season and that front seven is really good. Vikes Offensive line got burned by Buffalo! What makes you think they can open running lines against Suh and Donald? I’ll sit both this week but however Andrew Norwell Jersey , in daily, I would take the risk on Murray as he is the bigger back that can push the line and is more prone to getting that goal line carry. Projection: Cook (if he plays) 15 carries for 62, with 4 receptions for 32 yardsProjection: Murray 13 carries for 43 yards, with 5 receptions for 35WR Brandin Cooks, Rams Really? Sit Cooks? Am I crazy? Maybe a little, but hear me out. Minnesota has yet to allow a receiver to go over 64 yards. As Cooks is prone to get a big play but he hasn’t don’t that yet. He has no touchdowns yet. He has been getting catches (7 in the last two games), but I see Xavier Rhodes shutting him down. Now watch, Cooks is going to explode! Projection: 4 receptions for 70 yardsTE Tyler Higbee, RamsHave to be straightforward with you guys, I had to actually look up who was the starting tight end was for the Rams. The Rams do not use the tight end as a receiver. They primarily use the tight end as an extra blocker for Todd Gurley. He only had two targets (4 on the year) last week for 35 yards, and the volume isn’t there to even constitute a start in any format. Simply enough stay away from Higbee as well as Gerald Everett, which is the second string tight end. Projection: 2-21Viking DefenseMe sitting the Vikings defense is simply the product of being scared of the Rams offense. The offense has been averaging over 30 points per game, and that stat scares the Goff out of me. Don’t give me wrong, the Vikings defense is really good, but I don’t think they can hold the Rams offense all night. They are going to give up points! Projection: 27 points with 4 sacks and 2 turnovers K Sam Ficken, Rams The Rams sign Ficken to replace the injured Greg Zurlien and I’m sitting him. He missed his only field goal last week (he did make all of his PATS) and I don’t think there will be many field goal opportunities for him. Projection: 1 for 2 on field goals, with 3 extra points

Franko Discussion / A key play from Sunday night’s Chiefs-Patriots game
« on: December 09, 2018, 08:36:41 pm »
had Kansas City applying double coverage to three options in the New England goal-line passing game Tanoh Kpassagnon Color Rush Jersey , which created an opportunity for quarterback Tom Brady to run for the end zone. And run he did.Along the way, he avoided an attempted tackle by linebacker Breeland Speaks, who later claimed that he pulled up in his effort to sack Brady for fear of a roughing-the-passer call.NFL executive V.P. of football operations Troy Vincent, speaking to ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio, didn’t seem to buy Speaks’ story.“I looked at the video and Tom Brady moved up and the player missed a tackle,” Vincent told Paolantonio. “He missed an opportunity to make a sack. We have seen Tom step up thousands and thousands of times. In that particular situation, he stepped up, then he wound up running in the end zone. But that is one thing we always want to remove from a player’s mind is doubt and we think that we continue to educate, showing players what their peers are doing to make plays, but in that situation its something we have seen Tom do year in and year out https://www.thechiefsfanshop.com/Eric-Fisher-Jersey , step up in the pocket, avoid a sack and wind up running into the end zone.鈥滶ven if Speaks truly was thinking about not getting a roughing call, Speaks shouldn’t have held back. He should have made the tackle, and he should have welcomed the risk of a penalty being called. After Pittsburgh’s Week Five win over the Falcons, Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt told PFT that he won’t change his playing style due in part to the inconsistencies among referees regarding what is and isn’t roughing.Speaks and every other player would benefit from adopting that same mindset. Learn good techniques, incorporate them into your game, and make tackles when tackles need to be made. It’s far too easy for the “I went too easy” explanation to be interpreted as an excuse. It’s also far too easy for that excuse to be picked apart in the film room by the defensive player’s team, as Peter King predicted on Tuesday’s PFT Live that it will be this week in Kansas City. This is part two of a three-part weekly film analysis on the performance of Patrick Mahomes. Part one here.I mentioned Tuesday that we’re nearing a point with Patrick Mahomes where it won’t matter what the defense does. That he’ll just rise above it.Franchise quarterbacks are worth well beyond the salary cap hit that they incur. They find ways to elevate organizations all around them. The circumstances weren’t perfect in New England. There were injuries on both sides of the ball, a lot of talent had to miss the game. It didn’t matter. Yes, the game started out rough Jarvis Jenkins Jersey , but regardless of the struggles, Mahomes elevated his play and made up for significant losses to come back and take the lead against Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. There are positive things from that game, and we’ll talk about a few here today.Something smartThis is a sneaky great play by Mahomes, both from the mental and physical side.Late in the third quarter, with the Chiefs trailing 27-19, Mahomes and company have a chance to come within one (they do) or tie (I would’ve) the Patriots. They’re in the red zone at the New England 14-yard line on a second-and-10. The Chiefs are lined up in a closed formation with Travis Kelce lined up into the boundary, attached to the offensive line with three receivers lined up to the field and Kareem Hunt in the backfield to the field side as well. The Patriots are showing man-free coverage (Cover 1). They had done a good job of muddying things up for Mahomes earlier in the game with a variety of tweaks to the pre-snap looks. One thing they had success with was moving one or two players in the box around after Mahomes had set the protection. On this play, Mahomes initially sets the protection to No. 23, Patrick Chung, lined up in the box but adjusts to No. 53 Patrick Mahomes II Color Rush Jersey , Kyle Van Noy. After the protection is set, Chung slides over to cover Hunt. On the snap, Van Noy blitzes. Mahomes knows it’s man-free coverage. There is a big void in the boundary-side corner of the end zone if the Chiefs can get someone over there. Luckily for them, they have the fastest player in theNFL lined up as the No. 3 receiver in the slot. Hill ran vertically for two yards and then darted to the corner of the end zone. With Kelce running an underneath route across the field, there’s plenty of space to deliver a ball. If the middle-field safety can be occupied long enough, there’s a window to throw. Mahomes knows this and holds the safety by looking to the wide side of the field. The throw is nothing short of perfect. At the absolute perfect time, Mahomes flips his hips and eyes to deliver the throw. He waited for the last second to deliver the ball into the corner. The placement, touch and accuracy of the throw were perfect. Great design to get the talent in a perfect place to succeed and excellent execution by both quarterback and receiver.Something specialThe last throw of Mahomes’ first half was something bad and led to a turnover and a lost opportunity for points. The next chance the kid got to deliver a throw? Whew. The Chiefs need to convert this critical third-and-2. Already down 24-9, they simply can’t give the ball back to the Patriots. The Chiefs are lined up in a familiar look they like to run in situations like these. They have Kelce, Hill and Hunt all lined up into the boundary in a condensed look. We talked about it in the season’s first edition of 45 seconds:Kelce is going to run a whip route https://www.thechiefsfanshop.com/Tyreek-Hill-Jersey , Hill is going to run a middle curl and Hunt is going to run a swing. As the video above shows, they’ve been able to hit Hunt on the swing with space to convert. The Patriots are in Cover 2, so the boundary corner is playing the flats. Mahomes wanted to hit Hunt again, but with the corner covering him, he had to improvise. He rolls to his right and Hunt turns upfield. A reminder—this is third-and-2. It’s as gutsy as it gets to deliver a ball in this situation down the field. If the Chiefs don’t convert, they’re likely to give the ball back to the Patriots who are already up two scores. That didn’t shake the kid. The second view of the throw is my favorite. This was the first pass attempt for Mahomes after his second interception. This is a critical play in prime time. In that situation, he delivers a throw with small margin for error. The fearlessness Mahomes displays rubs off on people. He’s confident and more than capable of doing things that elevate the team around him. Both sides of the ball are energized by these kinds of plays and the frequency we’re seeing them at. He’s running out of things to prove and it’s only Week 6. The kid is for real.

I’m in Colorado to watch my first game in Denver since the Broncos 2005 season. I went to the game with my buddy Dailey since he was a Detroit fan and boisterously confident in the Lions ability to “womp the @#%!” out of the Broncos. So was I http://www.broncoscheapauthenticstore.com/bradley-roby-jersey-cheap , really. Tim Tebow had just taken over for Kyle Orton the previous week and completed less than half his passes in a victory over the Miami Dolphins. I wanted to believe, really. I was in high school when Tebow gave his famous “promise” speech. It gave me goosebumps. My eyes couldn’t lie though, while fans were abuzz with the Florida quarterback I saw a fullback who could throw and thought it was little more than a gimmick. On the plus side, I was a big fan of the defense for the first time in forever because John Elway had nabbed Von Miller 2nd overall in the draft. If you remember 2011, you’ll know that was the year Denver improbably made the playoffs and eventually stunned the Pittsburgh Steelers in overtime. I remember guests asking about Tebow all winter as I worked in Big Sky, Montana and their confused looks as I ranted about my new favorite player, number 58.The defense literally carried Tebow to the playoffs that year, but without a little Mile High Magic, the ride would have ended in round 1.Enter Demaryius Thomas. In the Tebow offense he was basically an afterthought in 2011, posting a 32-551-4 TD line. The stats and scheme masked the burgeoning talent John Fox had inherited from Josh McDaniels, but that all changed on January 8th. Probably the single greatest game winning play in Broncos playoff history. I’ve hated the Steelers since 2005, so it was sweet revenge to see D.T. rip their still-beating hearts out of their chests. Following the season, Peyton Manning came to Denver and Thomas grew into arguably the best receiver in Denver’s history. The move yesterday made all of the sense in the world on paper. The playoffs are the longest of long shots following the 30-23 loss to the Chiefs last Sunday. Courtland Sutton is ready to step into Thomas’ role and DaeSean Hamilton and Tim Patrick need more reps in order to grow. It also made sense if Elway was going to turn around and cut Thomas after the season in order to avoid paying his 2019 salary. Thomas caught the Sheriff’s first touchdown. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt. Fans were harder on Thomas than seemed fair given his talent, at his peak he was a top 5 receiver in the league and one of the scariest playmakers at the position. I’ve long said that an NFL receiving corps is sort of built like an NBA starting lineup: the best ones have a superstar number 1, an all-star number 2 and then quality role players to compliment them. Thomas played LeBron James on arguably the best passing offense ever assembled. 5 years later it’s still hard to believe that 55-touchdown campaign came from my favorite team. So the objective, logical part of me knows that Elway made the right move, but there’s no doubt a small part of me is rooting for the Texans the rest of the way. It will be fun to see what Thomas can do with a budding star QB throwing him the ball after the short hand Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch dealt him for two years. Wish you the very best Bay Bay, in football as well as life. Stay golden. Peyton’s single game record tying touchdown pass? To D.T. There’s little doubt he did most of the work on this one. Overshadowed by Thomas’ departure are the results of last week’s game. How did the Broncos do in accomplishing the keys I laid out for victory last week?In 2 words? Not great.Key #1 Slow down Dee FordFord (55) haunted the Broncos line last Sunday. This was an abject failure. Ford had 3 sacks and completely overwhelmed the Broncos in key moments. Denver wound up just 3/12 on third down while also fumbling twice. Far too often Bolles and/or Turner were left alone with Ford and with little more than hope that one would find a way to keep him off Keenum. It didn’t work. In the 4th Quarter Keenum had a 4 play stretch where he had a sack-fumble, an interception, a sack, and then a 2-yard loss on third-and-2. Key #2 Run the Damn BallBooker had 9 carries for 78 yards and could have had even more with additional opportunities. The Broncos ran for almost 200 yards on 30 carries and would have had more if penalties hadn’t wiped out 2 huge runs. Even then Youth Adam Gotsis Jersey , both Devontae Booker and Phillip Lindsay had great games on the ground. At this point in the game the Denver backs were averaging almost 6.5 yards a carry. That doen’t hide the fact that play calling was questionable at times, with the 3rd and 2 jet sweep to Emmanuel Sanders first to mind. Both the Bronco’s backs were already gouging the Chiefs run defense and in a short yardage situation the ball was taken out of their hands. Unfortunately, this is nothing new and it seems Broncos fans should resign themselves to questionable decisions so long as Bill Musgrave is the playcaller. Key #3 Force Mahomes into mistakesEarly on it looked like the Broncos would aim to slow down Mahomes. Early in the game it looked like Joseph and Woods’ game plan had all but copied last week’s GIF Horse word for word. I mentioned then that the Broncos best chance to win is to sell out in order to limit Patrick Mahomes as best they can, even if it meant Hunt goes ham. After the first drive though, it became apparent Kareem Hunt was the marked man last week and the Broncos were going to do all they could to slow down the Chiefs running game, even if it meant giving up 300 yards, 15 first downs, and 4 touchdowns through the air. It’s debatable if the Fly Zone ever had a realistic chance to slow down Mahomes, so perhaps Joseph went with the only game plan the team could accomplish. Denver did hold Kansas City to their 2 lowest point totals on the year, it just wasn’t enough when the offense couldn’t score 30+ on the worst defense in the league. This was about as easy a TD as you’ll find in the NFL. So what will it take of the Broncos to beat the banged up Houston Texans? Key #1 Protect KeenumHouston has a variety of ways to get to the passer, it’s vital Musgrave finds a way to protect Keenum. With their return to health this season J.J. Watt, Whitney Mercilus and Jadeveon Clowney have been terrorizing opposing passers. The trio has combined for more than 50 pressures on the season, which is insane. Their production is a big part of the Houston pass defense and any of the three have the potential to force Keenum into a big mistake. What’s even scarier is how Romeo Crennell will use them as decoys in order to dial up blitz plays to attack the protection’s weak points with blitzes. It’s critical that Musgrave calls a game plan that minimizes his quarterback’s chances to commit a catastrophic mistake. The Broncos need to run early and often to manage the sticks as best they can, even if the Texans D is the league’s best run defense by DVOA.If they can stay ahead of the downs, it will go a long way towards preventing Watt and the gang from taking over. Key #2 Dink and Dunk them to DeathIt’s almost a paradox given the necessity to protect Keenum from himself, but given the Houston run defense it will be all but necessary to look to pass here and there. Incidentally, the secondary is really susceptible underneath and will be without their best cornerback in Jonathan Joseph. There will be an opportunity for plays to be made and it’s critical Keenum finds Courtland Sutton, Emmanuel Sanders and Jeff Heuerman when they’re open. It will be a bit riskier than the last few weeks though, as the Texans are one of the best teams in the league against play action passes.Key #3 Disrupt Deshaun WatsonIf the Colts can sack Watson 7 times... Twice this season the Houston QB has taken 7 sacks in a single game. He’s been hit more than any other passer in the league and has been so banged up he’s had to avoid flying to games. The fact that Bill O’Brien and the Texan medical staff is letting him play is pretty insane, really. What’s crazier is how productive he’s been when he can find the time to complete a pass. Last week the Dolphins couldn’t get home and Watson shredded them for five touchdowns. The pieces around him aren’t as talented, but there’s no doubt the former Clemson Tiger is every bit as dangerous as Patrick Mahomes. Before Will Fuller’s injury he was having a breakout campaign and the Thomas trade was made in part to pair DeAndre Hopkins with another legitimate running mate. Lamar Miller’s 130-yard game versus the Dolphins notwithstanding http://www.broncoscheapauthenticstore.com/brandon-mcmanus-jersey-cheap , there is little doubt it’s the passing game that carries the Texans O. They have a critical weakness, however. There are few bookends less talented than Julie’n Davenport and Kendall Lamm so the Broncos edge rushers should have a field day. It also seems doubtful that D.T. will step in and see significant snaps off the jump so the Broncos are probably catching Houston at the most opportune time for their own chances. They need to capitalize. If the Orange Rush can’t get to Watson he could make mincemeat of the Fly Zone, even minus Will Fuller. What do you think Broncos Country?Broncos 3rd & long: no defense That was a total team failure. The defense was poor (and that will be the focus here), but so were the offense and the special teams. The Denver Broncos looked ill-prepared and, in some instances, uninterested in all three phases of the game. The New York Jets came into the game averaging 88 yards rushing per game. In their previous game (against a good defense) the Jets had gained 34 rushing yards on 14 attempts (2.43 ypc). The Jets had four individual runs against us that gained more than they gained in their entire game against Jacksonville. They gained 324 on 37 carries (8.76 ypc) - I removed the kneel-down. The Broncos defense had allowed 375 total rushing yards in the first four games, then game up 323 in one single game. Since the merger there have only been 38 times where a team has given up 320 or more yards on the ground. Denver has now been on the wrong end of four of them (five if you include the game in 2010 where we gave up 317 yards rushing):324 vs NYJ 2018328 vs OAK 2010 @ home (59-14 loss that got McDaniels fired)317 vs KC in 2010407 vs CIN 2000 (most allowed since the merger)332 vs NE in 1976I really didn’t want to look at the first down run numbers because the runs of 77, 54 and 38 yards ALL came on first down. Let me restate that, on first down, when a team with a lead and a rookie QB might be expected to run, the Jets had runs of 77, 54, 38 yards. I did look anyway, it was like a train wreck, I couldn’t not look. The Jets ran the ball 19 times on first down for 215 yards. That is 11.30 ypc. Isaiah Crowell set an NFL record for ypc for a back with 15 or more carries at 14.70 ypc. The Broncos are now allowing 5.74 ypc on first down runs. That’s 30th in the league. Only DET (6.40) and KC (5.94) are currently worse. Overall we are allowing 5.43 ypc which is also 30th in the league with only KC (5.81) and DET (5.68) worse. The Saints are currently best in the league at stopping the run allowing only 3.29 ypc. Surprisingly, the Broncos were able to force the Jets into eight 3rd and long situations (on 13 3rd downs). The Jets were able to convert on three of those and two of those conversions were TD passes. Supposedly, we have an elite pass rushing unit, a unit that should be virtually impossible to block on 3rd and long. That has not been the case this year. The Broncos defense has forced 35 3rd and long situations this year and has exactly one sack in those situations, and that was in the first game of the season when we got six sacks. Since the first game of the season our hyped pass rush has five sacks in four games. That is one of the reasons we have allowed conversion on 11 of those 35 (31.4%) which is 25th in the league. Denver is also worst in the league having allowed 4 TDs on 3rd and long. We are also worst in the league allowing 9.71 yards per play on 3rd and long situations. Oddly enough, our next opponent the Rams, had been worst in the league so far this year at stopping teams on 3rd and long. They have allowed conversion on 15 of 30 3rd and long situations (50%) http://www.broncoscheapauthenticstore.com/domata-peko-jersey-cheap , but I’m sure that is not Wade Phillips’ fault (He can do no wrong). Moving BackwardThe 2018 Broncos appear to getting worse week by week. The season, that started so promisingly with a fairly decisive win over the Seahawks, has now derailed so badly that some are talking about tanking the season to finish 2-14 and get another top 5 draft pick. Selfishly I would like to keep the streak going where the Broncos have not had back-to-back losing seasons since the time of the merger, but I don’t know how realistic that hope is. The weaknesses that we knew were going to be there have been exploited:a weak secondary, after CB1, with age/injury concerns an inability to cover RBs and TEsan inability to sustain drives on offense (although we hope Case Keenum and Musgrave might be able to change this)a LT who has poor technique, a hot head and propensity to hold and things that we thought were going to be strengths have turned into weaknessesour pass rush has disappearedour strong running game is being horribly underutilized (Royce Freeman had 5 carries last game)our journeyman QB who was great at protecting the ball last season has thrown more INTs than TDsour run defense, which was elite last season, was just made into the laughingstock of the leagueour strong group of WRs are not able to get YAC because our QB, whose stock and trade has always been accuracy, has not been very accurateThe holes are too many and new ones seem to appear faster than we can fix them. Our coaching staff is getting out-schemed and out-coached on a weekly basis, and now we face the Rams, arguably the best team in the league, on the road with possibility that both of our starting offensive tackles miss the game. On paper this looks like it should be a thorough beatdown by the Rams. Two running backs who have been average at best for the majority of their NFL careers, just gashed our run defense for 318 rushing yards on 35 carries. What do you think Todd Gurley is going to do? Our pass rush, which has evaporated since game one, is now going against the best two offensive tackles in the game. We just allowed a rookie QB who came into the game with one of the worst QB ratings in the league to put up a QB rating of 98.1 against us. What do you think Jared Goff is going to be able to do against the #FrequentFlyerZone (or the #NoTryZone)?I have no expectations that the Broncos are even going to keep this game close. That being said, if the Broncos some how pull off the upset on Sunday (any given Sunday) it would go a long way to salvaging this season (if you still believe that it is salvagable).

Franko Discussion / When the Jacksonville Jaguars selected
« on: December 01, 2018, 04:11:03 am »
Florida defensive tackle Taven Bryan with the 29th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft http://www.jaguarscheapshop.com/cheap-authentic-austin-seferian-jenkins-jersey , many eyebrows were raised. For a team that had so many needs on offense, few had the Jaguars pegged for taking a defensive player, let alone one at a position group where they already had the most depth and financial investment. When you boiled it down, the move had some logic in regards to a long-term succession plan, as the team knew it was unlikely that they would be able to fit all of the monster contracts from Calais Campbell, Marcell Dareus and Malik Jackson under the cap following the 2018 season. Tom Coughlin likes to see the pass rush pipeline flowing. The New York Giants selected Mathias Kiwanuka with the 32nd overall pick in the 2006 draft when the team already had Michael Strahan, Justin Tuck, and Osi Umenyiora. Coughlin didn’t technically draft Kiwanuka (as the ineffable Vito Stellino pointed out) but I can’t imagine he didn’t have at least some say in the decision. The scouting report on Taven Bryan was that he was a freak athlete, and his impressive showing at the NFL Combine validated that assessment. In fact, his 9.91 Relative Athletic Score (RAS) was second highest among defensive linemen and eleventh best among all players in the entire draft class. With an athletic web as wide as Taven Bryan’s, it made sense in theory to try and see what he has to offer as a potential successor to Calais Campbell as a strong side defensive end. He was a player that was labeled as raw with booming upside appeared to this regime as a malleable piece of clay to be molded and shaped by the coaching of Marion Hobby and mentoring of Campbell. Athletic Webs from Mockdraftable.comIt was an interesting idea in theory. It’s time to scrap it. As impressive of an athlete as Bryan is, his football IQ, play recognition, and instincts are equally unimpressive. Bryan has also failed to show he can consistently get off blocks and is unimaginative with his pass rush portfolio, which was a knock on him coming out of college. Listen to this clip of him being interviewed by Zach Goodall before the draft. In Bryan’s own words http://www.jaguarscheapshop.com/cheap-authentic-marcell-dareus-jersey , he’s never been asked to play anything other than 3-technique. When Zach asks to talk about his game and him how he wins, it’s “power/rip/rip/rip/rip.” This is a fine strategy when you’re lining up against average athletes at the collegiate level, but bull/rip every play isn’t going to cut it in the NFL. You have to be a technician and a master of your craft to play at a high-level and consistently win your match ups. It’s something that Yannick Ngakoue has done a phenomenal job of working at since entering the league as a rookie. For the “he’s only played in a handful of games give him a break he’s still learning” — I know. Defensive linemen traditionally take longer develop than most other positions, and this is especially true for a player like Bryan who was considered a raw project player with upside as mountainous as his quads. However, due to Bryan’s shortcomings as a player (play recognition, instincts, football IQ), the Jaguars need to line him up as close to the football as possible and play him exclusively as a rotational 3-technique. It’s what he is familiar with, and it’s the position he played at Florida that made the front office smitten enough to invest a first round pick on.I went back through some of Bryan’s splash plays at the University of Florida last season and it’s really not a secret what he was asked to do. Attack the A gap, win with a quick first step, convert to power, bully your blocker. Now all of a sudden, he’s being asked to bend around the edge, maintain edge gap integrity, sift through chips and pulls http://www.thejaguarsfootballauthentic.com/tashaun-gipson-jersey-authentic , and more. It’s much more on his plate than he’s ever had, and while it takes time to learn something he’s not accustomed to as it is with anyone in any profession, playing defensive line isn’t exactly rocket science. In his 2017 junior season with the Gators, Bryan had 17 solo tackles, 6 tackles for loss, and 4.0 sacks. In 30 career appearances for the Gators, Bryan had a total of 5.5 sacks. For the draft pundits that were comparing him to J.J. Watt — Watt had 42 solo tackles, 21 tackles for loss, and 7.0 sacks in his last year at Wisconsin alone. For someone as physically imposing and freaky athletic as Bryan is, he should have absolutely dominated his opposition in college and put up incredible production on a Florida defensive line last season that had Jachai Polite, Cece Jefferson, Jabari Zuniga, and Khairi Clark taking double teams. If he couldn’t dominate at the college level, why did this regime think he would be worthy of a first round pick in the NFL? And if they were going to spend a first rounder on him, why wouldn’t they play him at the position he knows? I’m sure Taven Bryan is trying his best and working hard to improve. The simple fact of the matter is massive projects with a developmental curve as steep as Bryan’s shouldn’t be considered until the third day of the draft. But he’s here now Womens Austin Seferian-Jenkins Jersey , and hopefully the brain trust pulls the plug on the “big end” approach and moves Bryan back inside to give him the best chance to succeed and contribute to the team, both in the immediate and future. So what say you? Should the Jaguars move Taven Bryan back inside to defensive tackle? Or does he need more time to develop at defensive end? Should the Jaguars move away from the whole “big end” philosophy? Let’s talk about it.Austin Seferian-Jenkins dealing with abdominal injury Jacksonville Jaguars starting tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins was a “DNP” on the official injury report on Wednesday, dealing with an abdominal injury. Seferian-Jenkins had been dealing with an injury, but according to Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone, aggravated it going up and coming down hard for a football.“He has had a nagging thing going on and he has been practicing,” Marrone told reporters on Wednesday. “The other day, he went for a ball and wound up falling down and it is sore. We are going to be smart about it.” Seferian-Jenkins status for Week 1’s matchup with the New York Giants on Sunday is still up in the air, with Marrone indicating that it’s possible he could still play.“I feel like he will play, but you never know,” Marrone said. “That is me saying it, not him or the doctors.” An interesting note on Seferian-Jenkin’s injury is that he tweeted about being inPhiladelphia on Tuesday, the player’s day off. For those of you who don’t remember, both wide receiver Allen Hurns and Dede Westbrook went to Philadelphia for a second opinion on their abdominal injuries and they ended up getting surgery for a sports hernia and missing time. It makes you wonder if the concern is Seferian-Jenkins has a sports hernia as well and could need surgery, which would sideline him for a few weeks.

Franko Discussion / Panthers quarterback Cam Newton heads
« on: November 22, 2018, 09:34:42 pm »
CHARLOTTE Russell Color Rush Shepard Jersey , N.C. (AP) — Panthers quarterback Cam Newton heads to his hometown of Atlanta this weekend without his favorite target Greg Olsen and potentially three starting offensive linemen to protect him. That might concern some QBs, but the league’s 2015 MVP is taking it stride.“My question back to you is, does it really matter?” Newton said matter-of-factly. “If it is concerning I still have to do something; if it’s not concerning I still have to do whatever I’ve got to do anyway. In the history of the National Football League, I don’t think there have been 32 teams that have not had injuries. It’s an unforgiving game and you have to roll with the punches and make due with whatever hand you’re given.”Still, it’s far from an ideal scenario for the Panthers, who have enough off-the-field distractions with players and coaches worrying about making sure their families are safe with Hurricane Florence approaching the East coast.Panthers coach Ron Rivera said owner David Tepper is helping develop contingency plans, but at this point the team is still waiting to get a better idea of what path the hurricane takes. On the field the Panthers will be replacing Olsen, a three-time 1 DJ Moore Color Rush Jersey ,000-yard receiver, for the second straight year after he re-broke his foot in a 16-8 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. However, the Panthers have enough faith in rookie Ian Thomas and backup Chris Manhertz — who have caught five NFL passes between them — that decided against signing a free agent tight end.Newton understands why, saying Thomas has the potential to be a “premiere tight end” in the NFL.“His expectations are high and I talked to him and told him today, ‘Listen, you don’t have any room for error,'” Newton said. “We know who you are replacing — and the shoes you are filling are extremely big. But, I wouldn’t be wasting my time though (talking about him) if I didn’t believe in his skillset.”The reality is replacing Olsen maybe be far less concerning for the Panthers than finding enough suitable bodies to protect their franchise quarterback.Carolina is deeper than they have been in years at wide receiver with the likes of Devin Funchess James Color Rush Bradberry Jersey , Torrey Smith, Jarius Wright and rookie D.J. Moore, as well as running back Christian McCaffrey coming out of the backfield — so there are plenty of options in the passing game. The offensive line doesn’t have that same depth, prompting the Panthers to trade for Corey Robinson before the season opener and sign eight-year veteran offensive tackle Chris Clark on Wednesday. Clark replaces second-team All-Pro right tackle Daryl Williams, who was placed on injured reserve Wednesday with a knee injury. He joins left tackle Matt Kalil, who was put on IR before Week 1.On top of that, the Panthers learned Wednesday that they might be without three-time Pro Bowl right guard Trai Turner as well against the Falcons.Turner entered the stadium Wednesday morning feeling ill and was placed in the NFL’s concussion protocol. He cannot practice or play until he’s cleared. All of that means major shuffling on the offensive line for Carolina.Rivera said he isn’t sure who’ll start at right guard or right tackle and the team will continue to work different combinations in practice. The Panthers will consider Clark and Amini Silatolu and Corey Robinson this week at right tackle, while Tyler Larsen Ian Thomas Jersey , Brendan Mahon or Silatolu could end up at left guard, but he added anything is possible.“We have a combination of things to go through,” Rivera said. “Just like last week we won’t really know where are headed until after Friday.”The Panthers aren’t going to get a whole lot of sympathy from the Falcons, who are dealing with their own injuries following the losses of linebacker Deion Jones and safety Keanu Neal. The fact is not only does the Eric Reid signing put Colin Jones back on the bench, it’s an upgrade at the position. First let’s take a look at the Panthers safety position season to date grades. Unfortunately my PFF account doesn’t let me look back at prior seasons grades or else I would tell you how Reid graded out for the 2017 season. I’m assuming it was pretty good from a grade perspective though not a Pro Bowl season. You can see with the loss of Da’Norris Searcy it put Colin Jones on the field a lot. We know Jones can fill a role for the Panthers, just not a starters role. I’m hopeful that Reid will not only fill Searcy’s role but even represent an upgrade, particularly in coverage.Looking at the grades for the entire Panthers defense you see that when in their base defense the Panthers that the Panthers still have two other weak points.Linebacker David Mayo will return to the bench in Week 6 when Thomas Davis comes off of suspension, so we have no worries there. The other concern is at defensive end across from Mario Addison. Wes Horton is currently grading at 42.3. Ron Rivera has stated he wants to see more snaps from Julius Peppers. I like the thought of that. Here’s the defensive end grades which includes snap counts. I hope we see some leveling this in Week 5 between Peppers and Horton and of course Curtis Samuel Color Rush Jersey , more Efe Obada. By the way, something seems off with the Horton grade as both of his run and pass grades are higher than the average. I don’t see that for a single other player. Maybe it’s a typo?To recap, while the Panthers defense has had two good games and one not so good they are still a top-10 unit who added a very good player to their weakest position. I’m excited to see how Reid meshes with the defense against the Giants next Sunday.Keep Pounding!

The Bears’ offense looks like its hitting its stride and Mitch Trubisky’s play from the Tampa Bay game didn’t take a steep drop off. Were there some bad throws? Absolutely. Should that be expected in the guy’s 17th start? Yes. But the good out-weighed the bad. He shook off a bad first half and dialed in to lead the offense to 28 second-half points, unfortunately, it was the one game where that wasn’t enough for the Bears defense.Stock upTarik Cohen, RB - I realize that his stock is high and that fans know what to expect from him, but he turned in a second straight game with over 100 scrimmage yards and a touchdown. He is out there making big plays and generally being a pain in defense’s rear ends. He still needs to improve his ability to take a cut and not lose yards and he also needs to improve his sideline discipline.Allen Robinson II, WR - Robinson has been quietly solid all season Eddie Jackson Jersey , despite stats that aren’t eye-popping. He turned in a touchdown for the second straight game and his highest yards since week two. I think Robinson is poised for a breakout game, especially with Taylor Gabriel balling out on the other side of the field. Robinson will get an 8-catch 100+ yard game soon. I feel it.Roquan Smith, ILB - Smith turned in six solo tackles and 13 combined. While his game lacked splash and impact plays, he was all over the field on a day where the Bears defense looked sluggish. He missed a couple tackles, but who on the defense didn’t miss any?Stock downEddie Jackson, S - Jackson had his worst game of the season Sunday. He was missing tackles and just overall looked like he was standing in concrete. Cody Parkey, K - Yes, it was the tail end of his range, but this is exactly what the Bears paid him $9 million guaranteed for. Of course they should have tried for extra yards but at the end of the day, the kicker has to execute. He was familiar with the stadium and the conditions.Leonard Floyd, OLB - I was unfairly hard on Floyd a couple of weeks ago. I have come around to thinking he was playing pretty well, especially against the run. However, on Sunday he took a horrible unnecessary roughness penalty and he mustered just three tackles. That’s all overlooking his roughing the passer penalty, which was ticky-tack and a bad call.Who stood out to you? Who did you have anger for?

Franko Discussion / The Dallas Cowboys woke up on Tuesday morning

with a 3-5 record and seemingly a lot of soul-searching to do. As true as that is the world goes on and that means that Jerry Jones had one of his weekly appearances on 105.3 The Fan.Jones addressed how the defense needs to play better https://www.dallascowboysfanshop.com/Leighton-Vander-Esch-Jersey , that Jason Garrett is aware of the team needing to improve, but he dropped a bit of a bomb whether intentionally or not. When talking about Dak Prescott, Jerry Jones literally said that Prescott was going to get extended.Dak Prescott is eligible to be extended in the offseason and many once thought that would be when he got paid like a big-time NFL quarterback. Prescott hasn’t exactly played to those standards through eight games, and to be fair Jerry didn’t exactly say what the Cowboys would be paying him https://www.dallascowboysfanshop.com/Connor-Williams-Jersey , but confirming that they would be extending the third-year quarterback is quite a vote of confidence.Of course, the Cowboys are obviously all-in on Dak. They traded away next year’s first-round draft pick to acquire Amari Cooper which is a move that helps Prescott. Incidentally, that is a move that would also remove the ability to acquire a top-of-the-draft prospect which further cements Prescott’s status as the team’s signal-caller for the 2019 season at minimum. For what it’s worth, if we’re talking about a fair contract given everything we’ve seen from Prescott over the last 365 days https://www.dallascowboysfanshop.com/Darren-Woodson-Jersey , then there are definitely worse moves that can be made. If the Cowboys can somehow get Prescott for relatively cheap, hope that he regains his rookie form in the future (perhaps under a different coaching staff), then maybe it’s an investment Jerry Jones thinks is worth making. If the Cowboys go even more all the way in on Dak Prescott and hand him a contract to match that level of want and faith, well Chidobe Awuzie Jersey , that would be a different story entirely. For now, we know Dak is going to get extended. Unless Jerry Jones changes his mind. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports this morning that the Cowboys have been researching Amari Cooper and are considering trade with Raiders for the wide receiver. But the Cowboys are not the only team interested in Cooper, Schefter reports that the Redskins and Colts have also expressed interest. Cooper has been off to a slow start this year, catching just 22 passes for 280 yards Jourdan Lewis Color Rush Jersey , and Mike Lombardi of The Athletic claims Oakland’s brass doesn’t think the wide receiver has “great passion for the sport.”We asked our readers yesterday whether the Cowboys should trade for Cooper. 3.663 readers responded, and it doesn’t look like anybody is willing togive up the first-rounder the Raiders are supposedly looking for:But if the Raiders are willing to accept something less than a first-round pick, it looks like here’s a deal to be made for Jerry Jones.Michael Irvin for one is convinced Amari Cooper is the missing piece to Cowboys becoming a Super Bowl contender.

The Jaguars also get back defensive end Dante Fowler Josh Lambo Color Rush Jersey , who was suspended for the opener. Jalen Ramsey is a gift. The Jacksonville Jaguars are a few days away from going up against the AFC’s best team in the Kansas City Chiefs. Much has been made of the marquee matchups we’ll get to see on Sunday, including Jalen Ramsey vs. Tyreek Hill — our best cornerback against their best receiver. After Tyreek had some things to say about Jalen on Wednesday, it was Jalen’s turn to return the favor. Here are Jalen’s answers to questions about Tyreek from today’s press conference. On looking forward to Sunday’s matchup “I’m looking forward to playing the game. I am looking to playing their offense. I am looking forward to seeing their defense against our offense. I don’t like how whoever has made it a matchup — me against Tyreek. He’s good for what he does for their team. He made All-Pro as a return specialist. Let’s get that right — as a return specialist, his rookie year. He went to two Pro Bowls as a return specialist. A return specialist, two years. I made All-Pro in my position as a corner. I went to the Pro Bowl as a corner. It’s not a wide receiver versus a corner matchup. We can get that out of the way off bat. But Ronnie Harrison Jersey , you know, I feel like it was strategic. A smart move by him. He is going to get some clout. He is going to get the buzz going around there for a little bit. But he knows. Just like I feel like everybody knows. Me and Tyreek [Hill], we are probably going to have some opportunities to match up against each other, but it won’t be like that for the majority of the game. He moves around everywhere. He plays running back, receiver https://www.jaguarsfanstore.com/Will-Richardson-Jersey , slot 鈥?He’s not out there on that island 90 percent of the time where I’m at. I don’t look at it as me versus him. I don’t think this is really a matchup game to be honest with you.”On Tyreek saying Jalen was a good player“I just wished he would have picked a side. Either, ‘I’m just alright’ or ‘I’m the top dog.’ Pick a side. If I’m the top dog, but I’m just alright, that means he doesn’t think that any corner in the league is good and that is not true. What do you want to know? What is the actual question?”On Tyreek saying he hopes Jalen presses him“If you look at my film, what do I do every day every week? I play press Logan Cooke Color Rush Jersey , right? No matter what, who I’m playing. If he wants smoke, it will get there.”

of the season against the New England Patriots Chad Henne Jersey , 43-40, on Sunday Night Football. Here are the game’s winners and losers:WinnersTom Brady came into Sunday Night Football looking for his 200th regular-season victory, the most all time. He earned it by working in seven different Patriots receivers, including five with three receptions or more. Brady went 24 for 35 for 340 yards, one touchdown and no picks. Brady also scored a key 4-yard rushing touchdown on the ground. While Patrick Mahomes did make some mistakes on Sunday night, especially on the two first-half interceptions—both bad—he went toe to toe with Brady and almost led the Chiefs to a comeback victory. Mahomes finished 23 of 36 for 352 yards, four touchdowns and the two picks. He has now thrown for more than 300 yards five games in a row and is the only Chiefs player in history to do so, according to the Chiefs public relations staff. Mahomes’ 1,865 total passing yards on the year are also the most through six weeks in Chiefs history. Brady made a point of it to find Mahomes after the game. Mahomes is the real deal.Photo by Maddie Meyer/Getty ImagesRob Gronkowski showed why so many people consider him the best tight end in the league on Sunday night. Gronkowski is so dangerous in the open field, and he made the Chiefs pay with three catches Sunday night for a total of 97 yards. The tandem of Sony Michel and James White is as good as billed. Michel has great vision and showed shiftiness in his 106-rushing yard effort, and White is a great change-of-pace back that offers Brady a reliable and scary option in the passing game. White had 92 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns on the night.Photo by Adam Glanzman/Getty ImagesSpeaking of yards from scrimmage, Kareem Hunt loves Gillette Stadium. After recording 246 scrimmage yards in his NFL debut Week 1 of last season in Foxborough, Hunt followed that performance with a 185-yard performance Sunday night. Hunt had 77 rushing yards and 105 receiving yards in the Chiefs’ loss. The first and third most productive games of Hunt’s career have come at Gillette Stadium. Both Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce deserve to be on this list based upon their nights. Hill continues to show why he is not only a dynamic player but also one of the up-and-coming receivers in the National Football League. Hill had three touchdowns and 142 yards against New England. On a night when the Patriots did everything to take him out of the game, Kelce still managed 61 yards on five catches. Linebacker Dont’a Hightower did a nice job on his early interception of Patrick Mahomes. Hightower faked a blitz and dropped into coverage, and Mahomes bit badly. Hightower nearly returned the pick for a touchdown but was stopped just four yards short after a 27-yard return. Dee Ford continues to be a force to be reckoned with on his contract year.Way to take advantage of an opportunity, Tremon Smith, with your 97-yard return that set up the Chiefs’ go-ahead touchdown. Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker continued his perfect season by going 4 for 4 on a night the Chiefs desperately needed him to be perfect.NFL Network host and AP lobbyist Peter Schrager almost nailed his guest game prediction. Kudos.LosersOrlando Ramirez-USA TODAY SportsDefensive coordinator Bob Sutton leads off this list with the Chiefs surrendering exactly 500 net yards and 43 points to the New England Patriots, but it would be wrong to place all the blame on Sutton. For one reason or another, the Chiefs refuse to finish tackles, and that start with the “dynamic duo” of...Anthony Hitchens and Reggie Ragland. Brought on to the Chiefs shore up the run defense, Rags To Hitches has failed to do so to this point in the season. The Patriots rushed for 173 yards on Sunday night, the fourth game in a row the Chiefs have allowed 100 rushing yards or more.Breeland Speaks should have wrapped up Brady on the 4-yard touchdown play, and he didn’t because he thought Brady had thrown the ball. The real loser when it comes to Speaks and that play is the NFL, whose pass-rules are changing the mentalities of players that made the game great for the worse. That problem needs to be fixed sooner rather than later. You may be able to make a case for Speaks on the winners list Sammy Watkins Color Rush Jersey , as he recorded the first sack of his career, a strip-sack of Brady.Winslow Townson-USA TODAY SportsIf Sutton is going onto this list, so too should Patriots defensive coordinator Brian Flores and defensive-minded head coach Bill Belichick. The Chiefs and Patriots combined for 83 points on Sunday night. Nobody involved in defensive game-planning deserves to walk out a winner. The Patriots secondary, which left Hill wide open with room for a 75-yard, go-ahead score, also makes the losers list. The Patriots defense let up 446 net yards.Chiefs cornerbacks Kendall Fuller and Steven Nelson looked as though they struggled on Sunday night. Fuller was the victim of an early Patriots touchdown made by Julian Edelman and Steven Nelson gets awfully grabby on occasion, and he was the victim of a 37-yard defensive pass interference penalty because of it on Sunday night. If safety Jordan Lucas wants to start regularly, he has to make plays like the late pick of Brady that went in and out of his hands. That play would have sealed the deal for the Chiefs. Wide receiver Sammy Watkins felt invisible against New England. Eric Berry didn’t play, again. Agree or disagree? Let me know in the comments. The Kansas City Chiefs dropped their first game of the season Sunday night to the New England Patriots in Foxborough. Here were the snap counts for the Chiefs:OffenseDefenseSpecial teams (only)Starters (offense): WR Tyreek Hill, LT Eric Fisher, LG Cam Erving, C Mitch Morse, RG Jordan Devey, RT Mitch Schwartz, TE Travis Kelce, WR Sammy Watkins, RB Kareem Hunt, WR Chris Conley, QB Patrick MahomesStarters (defense): LDE Allen Bailey, NT Derrick Nnadi, LOLB Dee Ford, LILB Reggie Ragland, RILB Anthony Hitchens, ROLB Breeland Speaks https://www.thechiefsfanshop.com , SCB Kendall Fuller, RCB Steve Nelson, LCB Orlando Scandrick, S Jordan Lucas, S Ron ParkerActive, but did not play: QB Chad Henne, S Leon McQuay, LB Nate OrchardInactive: S Eric Berry, S Eric Murray, RB Darrel Williams, LB Justin Houston, OL Kahlil McKenzie, DT Justin Hamilton, LB Tanoh KpassagnonTakeaways (in no particular order)The Chiefs offense ran 54 plays on offense and 78 plays on defense against the Patriots.Sammy Watkins played 100 percent of offensive snaps against the Patriots, coming away with four targets for two receptions and 18 yards.Wide receiver Tyreek Hill (98 percent) and tight end Travis Kelce (94 percent) were also in for much of the game. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes targeted Hill 12 times for seven receptions, 142 yards and three touchdowns. Mahomes targeted Kelce nine times for five receptions and 61 yards. When center Mitch Morse (22 snaps) left the game with a concussion, starting right guard Jordan Devey slid over to center and Andrew Wylie (32 snaps) came in at right guard. Two offensive snaps for fullback Anthony Sherman is a season-low.Your iron men on defense (100 percent of snaps) were safeties Jordan Lucas and Ron Parker, cornerback Steven Nelson and linebacker Anthony Hitchens. With Justin Houston out of the lineup, Breeland Speaks played 76 defensive snaps (97 percent). The Chiefs like rookie Derrick Nnadi at nose tackle—he out-snapped Xavier Williams for the second week in a row. This week it was 39-26. The Chiefs have had Nnadi playing around 50 percent of defensive snaps in the last two games.Linebacker Reggie Ragland’s snaps were back up against New England—he had 49 defensive snaps (63 percent). Ragland out-snapped Terrance Smith, who saw only eight plays of defensive action. Linebacker Frank Zombo also saw just eight plays in his return to the lineup.Cornerback-safety hybrid Josh Shaw saw 22 defensive snaps (28 percent) in his debut for the Chiefs. The four-phase special teams guys for the Chiefs right now are tight end Demetrius Harris (28 special teams snaps), fullback Anthony Sherman (27), linebacker Terrance Smith (28) and cornerback Charvarius Ward (28). After all the talk of Marcus Kemp playing wide receiver and safety this week, he had just 18 snaps on special teams.

Franko Discussion / Broncos’ players have one last shot to prove
« on: November 15, 2018, 04:00:45 am »
they belong on final roster Good morning Authentic Emmanuel Sanders Jersey , Broncos Country. If you are a player who has been notified they don’t have to suit up for the final preseason game, dollars to donuts you have made the final roster. Congratulations! You’re officially a member of the Denver Broncos for the 2018 season. For those who haven’t been given that relief, it’s now time to focus all your efforts on Thursday night’s game against the Arizona Cardinals. Don’t leave anything on the field and give it your all— because for many — it’ll be the last time you have the opportunity to show you belong in the National Football League. In the not so long ago, there used to be two rounds of roster cuts to dwindle down to the final 53 man roster. With a rule change last year, now there is only one. That makes for an extremely chaotic few days, considering teams have to have their rosters finalized by 4:00 PM (EST) on September 1. That’s something Head Coach Vance Joseph can relate to, considering he was on the “roster bubble” throughout his time in the league.“This week is special because the entire roster is intact. So, as a young player, you get one more chance to prove you can play in this league. Back in my day, it was two cuts,” stated Joseph. “At this point, it was really guys who were going to make the practice squad or guys who can really play. But now, everyone has a chance who came into camp with us to play one more game and to play some meaningful snaps so they can prove they can play in this game,” he added. This year’s roster has a ton of talent and without question, there are going to be some very tough decisions when it comes to who stays and who goes. Various reports have shown that multiple players will be highly-coveted if they were to be cut. This furthers the notion that this Broncos’ roster is one of the deepest we have seen in years.Players who have been on past rosters such as Paxton Lynch Womens Royce Freeman Jersey , Zaire Anderson, Isaiah McKenzie, De’Angelo Henderson and Brendan Langley aren’t sure-fire bets to make the team. The same goes for several selections from this past draft like Keishawn Bierria, Troy Fumagalli, Sam Jones and Dave Williams — who face an upward battle to make the final roster — but are likely practice squad candidates. And if by chance a well-known veteran becomes available on the market after being cut from another team, you might even see more surprising moves made in the Mile High City. Though the players tying to make the roster can’t worry about the unknowns, they can only focus on themselves and play the best they can on Thursday night, because there are 31 other teams looking to find the right group of guys for the coming season.“For some of these guys, it’s the most important football game they’ve played in their whole lives. If you don’t make it your first year in this league, it’s hard to make it your second year. It’s a huge game for our young guys,” remarked Joseph. No matter what happens, all the bests to the players vying for a spot on the Broncos’ final roster — and continued success in all your endeavors — no matter where you go or what you do.Be sure to stay tuned to Mile High Report all week long to get the best roster coverage around. The Broncos all-time sack leader, who amassed 97.5 sacks in his NFL career, joined the Orange and Blue 760 1st and 10 at 10 crew this morning to talk Broncos defense.Fletcher was asked his thoughts on the Broncos first round pick thus far. “He’s in his second regular season professional game, and I think he’s doing well”, Fletcher said. “It’s still a learning experience for him. Right now there’s a little bit of thought Womens Justin Simmons Jersey , and there will be for the foreseeable future, but he has the tools and the mentality that once that light goes off and he realizes he can play this game at this level and be a great contributor, I think Bradley Chubb going to be the guy we’re talking about when Von Miller is near the end of his career in a few years.”That’s high praise coming from a legend like Fletcher. The biggest thing that stuck out to me was his call-out of Chubb’s mentality. Later on in the interview he talked about when Steve Atwater joined the team in 1989 that he knew Steve was going to be good when he saw that mentality from him in practice.Fletcher said, “the one thing that you know about rookie players from the first few practices is ‘this guy has the toughness, he has the mentality, and the guy’s willing to put in the work to constantly improve on his play. And that’s the thing that you see in a Steve Atwater, it’s something I saw in Rod Smith, Shannon Sharpe, and a number of other guys too.”While Fletcher wasn’t specifically talking about Chubb in the quote above, I think it’s telling that he recognizes and commends Chubb’s mentality and approach to the game as that’s been something that we have all noticed and mentioned multiple times about this rookie class. They are hard workers, tough, and willing to put in the time and effort to get better.I know he hasn’t set the league on fire quite yet, but I agree with Fletcher that once Chubb begins to get into a groove and get comfortable, good things are going to happen.

Franko Discussion / Chris Carson did what the Seahawks needed
« on: November 15, 2018, 12:53:40 am »
Chris Carson did what the Seahawks needed Authentic Bradley McDougald Jersey , but did not win them the game Chris Carson carried the ball 32 times in the Seattle Seahawks’ 24-13 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, the most carries by a Seattle running back since Marshawn Lynch had 32 in a 22-17 win over the Baltimore Ravens. That was a memorable win for the Seahawks, and the last time that I remember so many people talking about the “importance” of a solid ground game that has a single player who can tote the ball that many times. Also, the Seahawks were bad in 2011. Remember that? They were good in the years 2012-2016 and at no point did they need Lynch to carry it 30 times. Thomas Rawls carried it 30 times in a 2015 win over the San Francisco 49ers, but he also gained 209 yards that day so why take it away from him?On Sunday, Carson didn’t even gain half of that. No, the more effective running back in Seattle this week was actually Ezekiel Elliott and his team just lost by 11 points.Carson had 102 yards on his 32 carries for an average of 3.18 YPC. Overall, the Seahawks gained just 113 yards on 39 total carries. That’s really bad from an efficiency standpoint, but the fact remains that if you’re winning the game, you’re more likely to be running the football. Despite an ugly YPC, teams usually win when they finish a game with that many carries. They don’t necessarily win because they had 35 carries, they had 35 carries because they were winning. Since 2015, there have been 77 instances of a team carrying it at least 35 times but gaining less than 150 yards and those teams are 72-4-1. (The one tie was the Arizona Cardinals in their 6-6 game vs the Seahawks.) Drop that to 35 carries and less than 120 yards, and you’ll see that since 2015, teams are 25-1 Womens Kam Chancellor Jersey , including Seattle after today. It didn’t matter that they didn’t run the ball well, it only mattered that they were winning and they had the luxury to keep running the ball in the fourth quarter. What mattered for the Seahawks instead was that they held Dak Prescott to 3.5 yards per pass attempt. They forced three turnovers, including two interceptions, and didn’t turn the ball over once. Carson was effective in a way, but even Duane Brown said after the game that they “left yards on the field” because the running game wasn’t doing enough. And we all saw that because when you rush for less than 3 YPC as a team, you’re not setting the world aflame with your ground attack. I mean, it was Elliott who had all the big runs ...The Cowboys rushed for 8.7 YPC today and they lost and it wasn’t even close. Elliott carried it 16 times for 127 yards, meaning Seattle again had a pretty poor run defense (saved in part by Bradley McDougald’s forced fumble on Elliott), but overall the defense did the thing it needed to do: shutdown and attack Prescott. That worked and again it was proven that the running game doesn’t really matter that much; at least not when you’re talking about the success and volume of the rushing game itself. If you want to make an argument that a running game does something else to effect other parts of the game, that’s a different story altogether, but if you’re looking at the actual effectiveness of the ground game on the box score, then Sunday’s box score for the Seahawks and Cowboys clearly makes the rushing game look meaningless once again. And if a quality rushing attack helps teams do other things, then why did Elliott’s 7.9 YPC do nothing to help Dak Prescott complete a pass downfield like Dallas actually needed? No, the Seahawks won because Russell Wilson completed some really difficult throws in coverage. Because the defense shutdown Prescott, forced three turnovers Authentic 12th Fan Jersey , and sacked him five times. Carson helped run the clock down after they had already sealed the win, and that’s how he did his part. Kind of. Carson carried it nine times on the final three drives and gained 21 yards, with 11 of those coming on a single play. It was because Seattle had consecutive three-and-outs that the Cowboys even had a chance to get back into the game at all. He’s a closer who was given a 5-run lead and allowed 3 runs. It did the job, but it certainly wasn’t the best job you could have asked for.I love the way Chris Carson plays. I think he’s the best running back for the Seahawks and he has the potential to be one of the five best running backs in the NFL. I just think that only takes you so far and the real key to football in 2018 is how you pass the ball. You can focus on the running back who won the game and say “That’s why they won the game” but then you’re just ignoring three other key components: Russell Wilson was good, Dak Prescott was bad, and Ezekiel Elliott was good. The good QB won, the bad QB lost. The good RB lost, the far less efficient RB won.Rashaad Penny’s weight changes yet again Following the Seattle Seahawks’ second consecutive loss to begin the season, there was a lot to unpack. Offensive incompetence. Miscommunication. Something called “Competitive thoughts.”Abandoning Chris Carson. Losing Tom Johnson for no good reason. Perhaps lost in the shuffle was something Pete Carroll mentioned on the radio on Tuesday morning, regarding rookie running back Rashaad Penny. According to Carroll, Penny is down eight pounds and that was part of the reason they gave him such a heavy workload in the second half of Monday’s loss. Regardless of whether the second part of that statement is true, or even sensible, it should raise some eyebrows. At the Scouting Combine this past spring, Penny weighed in at 220 pounds. A solid weight for his frame and athletic profile. (For comparison, the Seahawks claimed Marshawn Lynch played at 215 during his time in Seattle.)Just prior to the beginning of preseason http://www.seattleseahawksteamonline.com/barkevious-mingo-jersey , Carroll casually mentioned Penny was up to 236 pounds, a jarring 16 pounds gained since the combine. If we track Carroll’s comments both in August and on Tuesday morning, Penny now sits at 228 pounds, having gained 16 and then dropped eight since the spring. Perhaps they are trying to find his ideal weight—which is completely fair—but it isn’t the first time this has happened. As a rookie, Alex Collins’ weight fluctuated as well, as the Arkansas product thought he had to bulk up to handle life as a RB in the NFL. Collins was sluggish and unimpressive as a rookie, leading many to write him off. When he arrived in camp for 2017, Collins had dropped 13 pounds, coming in at 204 pounds. Though it still didn’t end up working out for him in Seattle, Collins was electrifying as the Baltimore Ravens’ lead back last season. Whether Penny’s initial weight gain was at the team’s instruction or not, we likely won’t find out. However, that he has already lost half of the weight he put on has to be a good sign. The running game hasn’t taken off the way the Seahawks had hoped, but if they can maintain both Carson and Penny’s health, it should be a matter of time.
